From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
